2013 SUMMER MISSION TRIP

We are excited to announce that the Kentucky Conference Ministries with Young People will be sponsoring our 3rd Annual Honduras Summer Mission Trip.  The week of June 21-29, 2013.

For the past couple of years we have had a great time being introduced to the Honduran people of the Algalta Valley in the region of Olancho.  Honduras Outreach Inc, besides being a great host, has been doing significant work here since 1987.  We have come to appreciate their “heart for God and hand to man” as they work alongside more than 200 villages in this area to improve the qualities of life, educating in heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Mrs Jennifer Davis, our Bishop’s wife, is the one that first introduced us to this group in 2010.  She had been doing work with them from her time in the North Georgia Conference.  And we are pleased again that Jennifer will be making the trip with us in 2013.  Falling in love with the small village of Carnizuelar over the past couple of years, Jennifer went about to raise funds to rebuild the school in this village.  It was very exciting to roll into the village this past year and see where they had started tearing down the old school so that we could begin the work of replacement.  If you want to feel the great opportunity of being used by God – this is the trip!

Our work will include some Vacation Bible School, possibly some help in the clinic associated with the ranch, and working with the village assigned to us to: build concrete floors, build latrines, and build chimneys that provide for cooking and heat.  Additionally we will participate in some community sport activities, and possibly help in the seed gardens or tilapia pond.

Our goal is to have two young people aged 16-22 from each of the 12 districts in the KY Conference.  Talk to your pastor and district superientendent to see what funds they might help to provide.  Many churches and districts are willing to go in for 1/3 cost of the trip, leaving only 1/3 to raise through friends and families support letters.  Most person taking this trip in the past have found no problem getting funded

The trip is about building relationship as well as doing physical work.  We are excited to go back in two year rotations to villages as we get to know the people and help increase their quality of living.  In 2013 we are scheduled to go back to Carnizuelar for a couple of days of work and to see the completed school project.  After that we will be going to a new village where we will work for the next couple of summers.

Come join us on a life-changing experience as we have a Bluegrass Conspiracy to Love Honduras.
